During the final ten years of his life in Vienna and London, Sigmund Freud kept a diary. On large, unbound sheets of paper, he recorded in brief the significant events that befell him and his family as he faced the ravages of terminal illness and the brutality of the Nazis who forced him into exile. 100 photographs
Soon after their first meeting in 1908, Freud's future biographer, Ernest Jones (1879-1958), initiated a correspondence that would continue until Freud's death in London in 1939. This volume makes available from British and American archives 671 previously unpublished letters, postcards, and telegrams, the vast majority of the three-decade correspondence between Freud and his younger colleague. That part of the correspondence which was written in German is presented in English translation. Booknews, Inc.10/01/1993
Seventeen years Freud's junior, Ferenczi (1873-1933), a young psychiatrist from Budapest, sent off a note anticipating the pleasure of the older man's acquaintance-- thus beginning a correspondence that would flourish over the next 25 years. Booknews, Inc.05/01/1994
